France and Real Madrid Playmaker Zinedine Zidane Says Referee Decision Distorted the Result
Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid and France playmaker, said that the referee in the France v South Korea match distorted the result by disallowing Patrick Vieira's goal. The French veteran remained positive about his team's prospects of progressing to the knockout stages of the FIFA world cup.
"If the second goal had been given as it should have been, that would have given us a boost," Zidane said at the post-match press conference. "Right away I knew it was valid. I was very close. I said it to the referee, but he said no."
"That has distorted the match," Zidane said.
Addressing criticism from French media and fans, Zinedine Zidane said that even though he won't be playing in the match against Togo, "We will suffer until the end, but we want to go further for the ones who support us."
Thierry Henry's goal against South Korea yesterday was the first World Cup goal scored by the 1998 World Champions ever since they won the title in home soil.
