Former Sweden No.1 goalkeeper Magnus Hedman has signed for Premiership champions Chelsea FC to give cover for long-term injury Petr Cech.

The 33-year goalkeeper flew to London late on Monday evening to sign for Jose Mourinho's side, who have struggled with injuries after their two primary keepers, Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini, were injured in the same match against Reading FC in October, with Cech out for some time with a fractured skull.

The former Coventry and Celtic keeper is set to sign Chelsea until the end of the season while Czech Republic No.1 Petr Cech recovers from his injury.

Before leaving the Swedish capital for London, Hedman was quoted as saying: “Chelsea and I have agreed terms, and I am very happy.”

Hedman retired from football in the summer of 2005, but impressed while on trial with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge recently, but is likely to be second choice behind current first-choice Hilario.
