Veteran striker Dwight Yorke has announced retirement from Trinidad & Tobago duty to concentrate on club football with Championship outfit Sunderland, who are hoping for a Premiership qualification.

35-year-old Yorke said in a statement on Thursday: "It has been a great personal and professional honour to play and captain Trinidad & Tobago over the years and I hope that I have contributed to the success of the team over that time.

"I believe the time is now right for me to concentrate on my career at Sunderland and hopefully win promotion to the Premiership."

Yorke, a member of Manchester United's treble-winning side in 1999, captained the Soca Warriors to their first World Cup appearance in Germany last year. He has scored 26 goals in 59 official games for the Caribbean country.

He moved to Sunderland in August after a spell at Sydney FC. Yorke is currently playing under his former United team-mate Roy Keane, who has begun a managerial career with the Black Cats, who lie fourth in the Championship.
