Former Germany & Scotland Coach Berti Vogts Appointed As Chief Scout For Juergen Klinsmann's GermanySubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sat, 18/02/2006 - 06:44.
Former Germany and Scotland head coach Berti Vogts has been appointed as coordinator of the scouting of Germany's World Cup opponents, the German Football Association (DFB) said yesterday. Vogts had applied for the post of technical director but turned it down after the DFB refused his demands of coming to a quick decision on the post. The fact that Vogts refused the post was a disappointment for Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann who had played under Berti Vogts, and was the national captain when Germany won the 1996 European Championship. Klinsmann and Vogts have remained close and German media has reported that the the former Scotland coach had proposed Klinsmann to the DFB in 2004 when they were struggling to find a successor for Rudi Voeller as national coach. Vogts had an unhappy spell as Scotland coach, winning only nine of 32 matches, and losing 16 games. Vogts had more success with his home country, coaching Germany to runners-up position in the 1992 European Championships. Germany face Costa Rica, Poland and Ecuador in Group A of this summer's World Cup which they are hosting. in favorites | email this page
