FIFA To Allow Re-Sale Of World Cup Finals Tickets Under Special Circumstances

Football fans with tickets for the 2006 World Cup will be allowed to sell them back to FIFA, or, under certain circumstances, transfer them to another supporter, the German World Cup organising committee said on Thursday.

Sale or the passing of ownership of tickets that have already been purchased will be possible from March 27 only through the official fifa.worldcup.com website, World Cup organisers said in a statement.

According to FIFA, it will be possible to transfer tickets only to members of the same family or under exceptional circumstances such as death or illness.

“We had to acknowledge that we could not stick to the rule that tickets could not be transferred,” said organising committee vice-president Horst R. Schmidt.

“However, we expect that 99 percent of the ticket holders will turn up at stadiums and that transfers will remain an exception.”

The re-sale of tickets will have to be performed through the official website, and the organisers will then make those tickets available to new buyers.

World Cup organisers say that there will be a charge of 10 euros for a transfer of ownership, while new buyers will pay 15 percent more than the original face price.
