FIFA President Sepp Blatter Indicates 2018 World Cup Could Go To North America On Rotation PolicySubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Wed, 28/02/2007 - 16:25.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has put forward North America as principal destination for the 2018 World Cup according to the rotation policy, while also acknowledging the interest of Europe with England FA being the main interested party. The decision on the 2018 final will also be impacted when FIFA meets in November to allot the 2014 event in November with Brazil being suggested as a possible host. Nevertheless, Blatter is also aware of China’s interest to bid for the 2018 football showpiece competition. England FA have the backing of the politicians to hold the 2018 finals for which the United States and Australia are also said to be lining up. In England for a series of meetings including one with Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown later on Wednesday, Blatter said during a media conference: "I can understand the eagerness of the English FA, supported by politicians, to stage the finals, but it is not definite the finals will come back to Europe in 2018. "If the FIFA executive committee decide later this year that the rotation policy is maintained, in strict procedure it should be in North America in 2018 -- and there are three countries who could host it there: the United States, Mexico and Canada." South Africa will host the 2010 tournament. in favorites | email this page
