Faroe Islands v Italy 1-2 - World Champions Struggle To Beat EURO Group B Minnows In Qualifier - AC Milan's Inzaghi Scores Brace

World Cup champions Italy have only managed a 2-1 victory over Group B minnows the Faroe Islands in their EURO 2008 Group B qualifier in Torshavn on Saturday.

Italy were leading 2-0, with goals in both halves from AC Milan’s Champions League hero Filippo Inzaghi, until Rogvi Jacobsen gave the world champions a late scare when he scored in the 77th minute to set up a nervous finish for the Azzurri who should have secured the points far earlier.

It was Italy's fourth straight win in Group B, with a draw against Lithuania and a loss to France in the first two qualifiers their only blips.

Inzaghi, speaking to the press after the match, said about the atrocious conditions in Torshavn: "We started well but the weather didn't help.

"In the end we're going home with three points and that's the most important thing for sure."

Italy now lie second in Group B with 13 points and six games left, two points behind leaders France and 1 point ahead of both Ukraine and Scotland.

Italy are due to face Lithuania in Kaunas on June 6, while the Faroes host Scotland on the same day.
