Former Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie has agreed a move to London neighbours Charlton Athletic, in a deal expected to be announced on Tuesday.

The former Northern Ireland international, who scored 11 goals and won 59 caps for Northern Ireland, will replace Alan Curbishley, who left his post as Addicks manager at the end of this last season.

Dowie has been heavily linked with the position since announcing his departure from his role as Crystal Palace's manager on Monday.

He faced strong competition from Preston manager Billy Davies, but the North End board announced earlier on Friday that Charlton had ended their interest in the 41-year-old Scotsman.

Dowie was in charge of the Eagles from December 2003, and brought the Eagles up from the Championship in 2004, only to be relegated at the end of the season.
