Erwin Sanchez Names Bolivia Squad For Copa America 2007 - DC United Forward Jaime Moreno & Villareal's Juan Manuel Pena NamedSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sun, 24/06/2007 - 17:47.
Bolivia head coach head coach Erwin ‘Platiní’ Sanchez has named 25 players to travel to Venezuela for the Copa America 2007 Finals, which kicks-off on June 26, with Bolivia featuring in the opening match against the hosts, Venezuela in San Cristóbal. The team, who drew 0-0 with Paraguay in a pre-tournament friendly on Wednesday, flew to Venezuela on Thursday to prepare for the tournament. Bolivia, also known as La Verde, have failed to win in the competition since they finished as runners-up in 1997 and will struggle to qualify from Group A, which includes hosts Venezuela, Peru and South American giants Uruguay. Jaime Moreno, who is a forward with DC United in the MLS and also had a brief stint in The Premiership with Middlesbrough FC, hasn’t featured in a competitive match for his country since 1997, but has been recalled to the squad by Sanchez, and will want to make a big impression, and to add to his 63 international caps and 9 goals for La Verde. Bolivia have only one player in European top-flight football - defender Juan Manuel Pena - who plays with Spanish Primera Liga side Villareal. Three players will be trimmed from the squad before the tournament begins.
