England Managerial Merry Go Round Continues -McClaren Wants To Be Top Dog

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren has admitted he wants to become England manager. McClaren, who was second in command at Manchester Utd, is Sven Goran Eriksson's coach, and has often been linked with the full managerial role should it become available. McClaren is close to agreeing a new deal at English Premier League club Middlesbrough, but he has not disguissed his plans to one day lead his country. "It is the pinnacle,I have always wanted to be a coach and when I was coach of Oxford to say I was going to be a Premier League coach, it was a million miles away, but I achieved that,"McClaren said."So while I am managing Middlesbrough and being successful why can't I dream of becoming England manager? "What I have to do is make sure I have continued success and keeping building this football club at being successful and one day the door might open. "Inside me is a driven person and I am not satisfied with what I have achieved. "I want to achieve a lot more than what I am doing at the present moment." Fine talking indeed, McClaren has joined Alan Curbishley and Sam Allardyce in the race to succeed Sven Goran Eriksson. McClaren's comments could, if taken out of context, appear rather derogatory about his current club Middlesbrough, he possibly has never really adjusted from the big time atmosphere of Old Trafford, with it's massive crowds and media exposure, whereas his current club could not even fill 50% of their stadium for their recent European match. McClaren knows his stuff, but in our opinion, he is not as good as the only other realistic contender who hasn't been mentioned, Peter Taylor the England U21 coach, who has an exemplary reputation when working with England. Some would say he couldn't adjust to looking after the full national team, well he did act as caretaker once, and of course for that match, he made a certain youthful David Beckham his captain, not a bad legacy hey?
