England & Man Utd Striker Wayne Rooney Sent-Off In Portugal Quarter-Final After Standing On Chelsea's Carvalho's Wedding-Tackle
England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been sent-off in England's quarter-final match against Portugal after standing on Chelsea and Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho.
England were still drawing 0-0 with Portugal, and were dealt the blow in the 63rd minute when Wayne Rooney was sent-off with a straight red-card for standing on Ricardo Carvalho’s wedding-tackle after a foul, which then saw the Portuguese players (some could suggest rightfully after replay's) calling for a card.
David Beckham, who was complaining on the sidelines after being forced to retire through injury, was also berated by the referee.
Rooney’s sending-off means that he will definitely miss the semi-final should England progress to the next stage.
Chelsea full-back John Terry was slightly injured in a collision with Tiago in the first-half, for which he received a yellow-card, meaning he too will miss the semi-final should England progress.
