England Look To End Goal-Drought Against Andorra In Euro 2008 Qualifier – Micah Richards Likely To Start At Right-BackSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Tue, 27/03/2007 - 05:11.
England will hope to end their nightmarish goal-drought, which has endured in their four of the last five matches, when they take on Andorra in the Euro 2008 qualifier at Barcelona’s Olympic stadium on Wednesday. Steve McClaren’s Three Lions need a boost as they aim to get their campaign to clinch a berth for the European Championship to be held in Austria and Switzerland, on track following a string of disappointing displays. Underfire boss McClaren could make a change to the line-up he fielded against Israel in the goalless draw in Tel Aviv on Saturday, with Manchester City’s Micah Richards fit again from a calf problem, coming in at the right-back position taken by Phil Neville of Everton. Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe, who felt he should have had a chance against Israel, could be a likely option upfront, where Everton’s Andy Johnson and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney hardly made any impact in the last match. Preston forward David Nugent is also an option upfront, and if he gets a chance, he would be the first outfield player from outside Premiership teams to represent the country in eight years. Andorra were beaten 5-0 in McClaren's first match in charge of England last year. England are five points behind leaders Croatia (13) and are three points behind Russia (11), who are currently occupying group E's second qualifying spot. in favorites | email this page
