Ecuador Squad Named By Luis Suarez For World Cup - Kaviedes & Delgado Lead AttackSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Thu, 11/05/2006 - 02:20.
Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez has named his 23-man squad for the World Cup Finals in Germany. Suarez has controversially included the temperamental Argentina-based striker Ivan Kaviedes in his 23-man squad on Tuesday. The Argentinos Juniors forward, who has, in his time, played club football in Italy, Spain, Mexico, England and Portugal, last appeared for his country in a 5-2 World Cup qualifying win over Paraguay in March of last year. Kaviedes's disciplinary problems have restricted his appearances under the Ecuador boss. The major absentee in the squad is striker Franklin Salas. Doctors said last month the forward would not recover from a knee operation in time for the tournament and Suarez has decided not to risk taking him. Ecuador have been drawn in Group A with hosts Germany, Poland and Costa Rica and kick-off their first match in the World Cup Finals against Poland on June 10.
