World Cup finalist's Ecuador will relocate to their Spanish training camp on the back of a 1-1 draw against Colombia in their international friendly match at the Giants Stadium in New York.

Ecuador’s head coach Luis Suarez fielded a weakened side, playing without four of his first-team regulars. Despite this they took the lead in the 52nd minute when Segundo Castillo collected an attempted clearance by Hayder Palacio, from an Edison Mendez corner, and drove in a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

However, their lead was short-lived; only three minutes later, following a mistake from goal-scorer Castillo, Elkin Soto took the ball on the edge of Ecuador’s box and fired left-footed past keeper Christian Mora inside the right post.

“Colombia are a great team and it is very important for us to play games like this to prepare us for the World Cup,” said Ecuador’s scorer Castillo.

“I'm very happy with the goal that I scored but I'm much more happy with the performance of the team. But we have to work a lot to correct the mistakes.'

The Ecuadorians will complete their preparations in Spain, where they will play FYR Macedonia on Sunday.

Ecuador have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Germany, Poland and Costa Rica.

The opening match of their FIFA World Cup campaign is on 9 June against Poland.
