Dietmar Hamann Secures Move To Man City Despite Bolton Deal - Liverpool & Ex-Germany Star Delighted With MoveSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Wed, 12/07/2006 - 21:16.
Former Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann has left Liverpool to join Stuart Pearce’s Manchester City on Wednesday after having already agreed a move to Premiership rivals Bolton Wanderers just 24 hours before. Hamann had confirmed a move to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday, before apparently changing his mind the following day. The experienced midfielder officially left Liverpool for Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday before switching his move to Manchester City just 24 hours later. The 32-year-old former German international, who was the last ever person to score a goal at the old Wembley Stadium and earned capped 57 caps for Germany, has joined Manchester City on a free two year transfer. Hamann won a host of medals with Liverpool, including winning the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, after his move to Anfield from Newcastle United in 1999. Hamann, speaking to the official website of his new club, mcfc.co.uk, said: ”I had agreed to join Bolton, but I quickly realised that going to them would not be the right move for me. I told Bolton my feelings immediately and they understood my decision. “When I became aware of press reports suggesting that City were interested in me, I was excited at the prospect of joining this club and knew this is where I want to be. I am happy that the situation has been sorted quickly. “When I spoke with Stuart Pearce I immediately knew that City was the club for me. Mr Pearce is an ambitious manager, and this is an excellent club with a good squad of players.” Hamann has immediately stated his pre-season training with City, and joined up with the first team squad on Wednesday. Hamann, stating his excitement at joining City, said he immediately felt at home in Carrington (the City training ground) saying: “Everything here at City is geared for the club to make progress and I want to play my part in bringing success to this football club. “I really enjoyed the seven years I had at Liverpool and I want to thank everyone connected to the club because they made me feel welcome from day one, but everything moves on and I am looking forward to the new challenge here at City.” Relevant LinksFor further news coverage of Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and Liverpool, visit the Manchester City News section, the Bolton Wanderers News section and the Liverpool News section of Premierhip News which provide additional team news, transfer news and more.
