The head of Argentine Football Association (AFA) Julio Grondona announced today that Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona is a member of staff in the Argentina team. "Diego has been incorporated into the national team staff" Grondona told La Red Radio Station in an interview, one day after meeting Maradona to discuss his future with the national team.

"There's not much to say in terms of what he will or will not do, he will do whatever is necessary. After (the friendlies against) England and Qatar, we will clear up the uneasiness and anxiety of certain media to see what one will do and what the other will do."

Maradona tried to calm fears for a clash within the Argentinian team by saying that he did not want to mess with someone else's work. Grondona reiterated his backing for Pekerman and told reporters that during their meeting the coach told Maradona "You are the country's team."

"If things go according to plan, Maradona has a future with the national team and I don't think there's anyone who deserves it more" Grondona said. Asked about whether Maradona could become manager of the team after the World Cup, Grondona said "If he carries on like this, then why not? We will do our best for him so that, one day, he will be in charge of all this"
