Denmark v Sweden 3-3 – Sweden Lead Group F In Euro 2008 Qualifiers – Liverpool’s Agger Starts Fightback For The DanesSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Sat, 02/06/2007 - 21:34.
Denmark staged a remarkable comeback to wipe off a three-goal deficit and hold arch-rivals Sweden to a 3-3 draw in a Group F Euro 2008 qualifier in Copenhagen. The Swedes had raced to a 3-0 lead inside the first half hour with Johan Elmander scoring a brace on either side of Petter Hansson goal. But the home side showed great resolve to come back with Liverpool defender Daniel Agger initiating their comeback with a goal in the 34th minute. After the half-time interval, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Leon Andreasen Andreasen completed the fightback. Sweden now have 13 points from six games but due to their superior goal-difference they have gone to the top of the group with Northern Ireland now second. Denmark have eight points from five games. Elmander found the target just seven minutes with a low shot after capitalising on a mistake by Michael Gravgaard. Sweden doubled their score as Hansson sent a free-kick from just outside the penalty area into the top-right corner of the net following Gravgaard's foul on Elmander. Elmander made it two for him with a right-footer from close range after connecting with Christian Wilhelmsson's cross from the right. Denmark started their fightback as defender Agger scored with a left foot strike after being set up by a Gravgaard header. Tomasson latched onto Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner's header before firing into the top corner of the net from close range in the 62nd minute. Denmark were level on score in the 75th minute as substitute Andreasen fired a long-range effort after Gunners’ Bendtner had supplied the cross.
