England midfielder David Beckham has disclosed that he first realised that he had to make another career move, in January when Real Madrid apparently told him it was end of his contract this summer.

The 32-year-old, who joined Real from Manchester United in 2003, will ply his trade in Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy after playing his final match at El Santiago Bernabeu this Sunday. And he has an opportunity to wrap up his career in La Liga with his first major honour in Spain as Real lead the table and need a win against Real Mallorca in the last match of the season.

"I first realised I would be leaving Real Madrid six months ago in January when I was told my contract wouldn't be renewed," said Beckham, who has with his superb form made Real coach Fabio Capello and others realise their mistakes.

"That was the time when I knew I had to decide my future. Leaving a club like Real Madrid is very difficult but I think my future is bright and it's something I'm really looking forward to now."

Capello and president Ramon Calderon were reportedly keen on using an escape clause in his LA Galaxy contract to make Beckham stay at Madrid.

However, Beckham revealed that there was no such arrangement in his contract.

"There is no clause with Los Angeles saying it could be changed. I've played for Real Madrid for four years. It has been an incredible time. Hopefully, it will end with winning the league. But this is it."
