Crvena Zvezda's Nikola Zigic and Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic Voted Best Serbia and Montenegro Footballers of 2005
In a poll organised by Serbia & Montenegro's daily newspaper "Vecernji Novosti", in which the 16 captains of the nation's First League Soccer Clubs all voted, two of the country's international players were awarded in this year's ceremony.
Crvena Zvezda's striker Nikola Zigic won the award for the second time in three years. He scored 16 goals for Zvezda in 2005, as well as another 6 goals in the UEFA Cup. Nikola Zigic has also scored 3 goals for Serbia & Montenegro during the World Cup 2006 Qualifiers.
Nikola Zigic also assisted two decisive Kezman goals against Bosnia and Spain.
Nemanja Vidic, who was recently signed at Manchester United, but his move followed an outstanding performance while he was playing for Spartak Moscow. He is also considered as one of the strongest defenders in the Serbia & Montenegro national team.
Inter Milan’s Dejan Stankovic, who got 4 votes in the poll, came third.
