Confederations Cup: Germany v Australia. June 15th. (20.00 Bst)Submitted by Scott Harkness on Wed, 15/06/2005 - 16:52.
Germany v Australia. June 15th. (Frankfurt) The hosts Germany, take on Australia at the newly renovated, Waldstadion, in Frankfurt, to conclude the first round of matches in Group A. After losing defender Christian Schulz to injury, the Germans will be weakened at the back, for their opener against the "Aussies", and the men in yellow may believe that they can spring a surprise. This cosmopolitan Australia side, are lively in attack, and might feel they can take advantage of a German defence, that lacks experience. Germany though, have a good squad, and if the influential Michael Ballack is on song, then they should be a force going forward themselves. German manager Jurgen Klinsmann has been under criticism lately though for his defensive policy. Continuing with youth at the back, Germany have looked frail, but the manager looks as though he will keep faith with the youngsters for this one. Germany will be keen to improve on their last Confederations Cup outing, when they were eliminated in the first round, and with Klinsmann also hoping that the youngsters will repay the faith he has shown in them, the pressure is on the German coach to get his team to perform in this tournament. in favorites | email this page
