Ahead of Wednesday’s Copa América Group B match against Ecuador in Puerto Ordaz, Chile head coach Nelson Acosta has stated that his ‘La Roja’ team will put everything into their attempt to achieve Copa América success.

Acosta is confident that his team have the ability to cause some upsets in the tournament and said: “(We) have to get on the pitch not giving anyone advantages, and with the thought of winning.”

Chile have a number of impressive young players in the squad, and the talented La Roja team could spring a few surprises under Acosta, who has been coach for some time, from 1996 to 2001, returning again in 2005 after a brief stint as Bolivia head coach.

Chile, who have been drawn in Group B in the tournament, alongside Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico, are in possibly the toughest group in the tournament, but Acosta believes that his team can do it.

“We have to play our three [group] matches to the death and I’m confident that things will go well and that we will have a good Copa America,” said the La Roja boss.

Chile debut against Ecuador on Wednesday evening, and then face Brazil in Maturín on July 1 and Mexico in Puerto La Cruz on July 4.

Acosta believes that getting a result against Ecuador will: “set them on their way for the other matches,” finishing by saying it: “will depend on the effectiveness of their football.”
