Brazil have thrashed Chile 6-1 the second quarter-final of the Copa América in the Stadio General Anzoátegui, Puerto La Cruz on Saturday night, which sees Brazil face Uruguay in the first Semi-Final of the Copa América 2007.

Brazil, who beat Chile 3-0 with a hat-trick from Robinho when they met in their Copa América 2007 Group B match in Maturin last Sunday, were the team in command from the start.

AS Roma new signing Juan Silveira dos Santos opened the score-line in the 16th minute to give Brazil a deserved lead, with former Arsenal loan striker Julio César Baptista doubling the score with a superb cross-goal strike eight minutes later as Brazil started to show their class.

Despite having gone 2-0 down so early, Chile tried to pull themselves into the match, with Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez making an incisive run into the Brazil penalty area to show that they weren’t going to make things easy for Brazil, with Gonzalez also giving the Seleçao another scare when he hit the Brazil crossbar from long-range, with a bullet shot that keeper Doni seemed to get a slight touch on to tip it to safety.

But this was their undoing as the space they left while attacking was opened superbly by hat-trick hero Robinho, turning the Chilean defenders brilliantly and firing low into the corner to beat Bravo in the Chile goal to make it 3-0 before half-time to give Brazil a healthy lead at the break.

Robinho scored his sixth goal of the tournament six minutes into the second-half to make him favourite to win the Golden Boot award.

Josue made it 5-0 in the 69th minute, with Humberto Suazo scoring a wonderful consolation gaol for Chile in the 76th minute, dribbling past the Seleçao defence, nutmegging Gilberto and chipping superbly at close-range to beat Doni to make the scoreline slightly more respectable and arguably score the goal of the tournament so far.

Brazil hadn’t finished yet, sealing a massive 6-1 win with a strike from Vagner Love, who played a sublime one-two and finished by slotting the ball into the net in the 85th minute to boost the confidence of the Copa América holders.

Brazil now go through to meet Uruguay in the first semi-final of the Copa América 2007.

Chile can take heart that they made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament, but were outclassed by a resurgent Brazilian side.
