France will be without Chelsea defender William Gallas who has failed to recover from a thigh injury, and will miss France's World Cup warm-up friendly against Slovakia on Wednesday, a French team spokesman said yesterday.

Gallas has not played for Premiership leaders Chelsea for three weeks, and has failked to recover in time for the friendly match.

“William Gallas is out for the match. He took medical tests today and he is not physically ready to play on Wednesday. He is to leave us and return to London tonight,” the spokesman said on Monday.

Les Bleus head coach Raymond Domenech has called-up Nantes midfielder Jeremy Toulalan to replace Gallas in the squad.

Toulalan had been chosen for the French under-21 team in Toulon, and is now expected to meet up with the senior squad at Clairefontaine training camp later today.
