Chelsea's Frank Lampard Slams Lineker, Shearer and Ian Wright For Comments Made About EnglandSubmitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Sun, 18/06/2006 - 08:56.
England and Chelsea FC midfielder Frank Lampard heavily criticised ex-England players Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright for their comments about England and Sven-Goran Eriksson's tactics. "We get the English TV over here so we see what's said," Lampard told reporters. "And to me there's nothing worse than seeing an ex-player who has played in the pressure-cooker situation of a World Cup coming out and giving a negative reaction." "It is very easy to make a negative remark rather than something constructive. It makes more of an issue of it... The problem I have with it is that they've been in our situation... They should be better than that," Frank Lampard said, sending a signal to BBC's Garry Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright that their analysis during the World Cup 2006 broadcasts is unfair towards England. "So many great and positive things come out of playing for your country. It's the best thing you can do as a player. The criticism you get is tough after a bad result but we understand it — you just don't need ex-players adding to it." "You certainly won't see me slagging off the team performances of England in 20 or 30 years' time. You can shoot me if you do." in favorites | email this page
I think the pundits are being honest and saying what they see rather than what they think some molly coddled players and managers want them to. There's a fine line between patriotism and jingoism and if the England team don't wake up to the fact they haven't been playing well and do something about it then we'll be the ones that suffer for it in the knockout stages not them. They'll go back to their mansions and we'll go back to dreaming about what might have been. But having said that I blame Sven for the attitude and tactic(s) much more than the players. I disagree with Frank Lampard. The ex-players are more experienced than him and know what they are saying. In addition, what does he mean by,"You can shoot me if you do."??? I agree with Frank partially, they are rather depressing, they should be more encouraging to an advancing team from two consequtive matches... yet,I think England team can give more than that, It is a very great squad, but with a too conservative coach, he doesnt give much freedom or space for such great players.. Let's just wait and see

I fully agree with Mr.Lampard's comments and hope to be the first in line with a Kalashnikov in twenty or thirty years time. If only other England 'stars' would take a similarly proactive stance.
