Chelsea FC Approached By West Ham United For Transfer Of England International Shaun Wright-PhillipsSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sat, 25/11/2006 - 16:46.
Chelsea FC have revealed that they have been approached by West Ham United with a view to bringing the England international midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips to The Boleyn Ground during the January transfer window. Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said: "There has been interest from West Ham and they have officially approached us." Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who bought 25-year-old Wright-Phillips to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City for £21m in July 2005, has hardly featured the England international - who is also the stepson of ex-England striker Ian Wright - in the first-team and has started him only in twelve league matches, though he has come off the bench on 23 occasions. With the take over of West Ham club by Icelanders Eggert Magnusson and Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, the club will have the money to spend in the January transfer window, however the Hammers made no official comment when contacted by BBC Sport on Friday. Whether a move is in the pipeline is yet to be seen, but Peter Kenyon finished by saying: "We're not looking to sell our players but if we get an offer we'll have to look at it on a serious basis."
