Chelsea Captain John Terry Backs David Beckham Despite Calls For Terry's England Captaincy

England and Chelsea FC’s centre-back John Terry has stated for the first time publicly that he has no desire of taking the England captain’s armband from David Beckham.

The Chelsea skipper has insisted he has no intention of trying to take the England captaincy from current England captain, David Beckham, before next summer's World Cup Finals in Germany.

Terry, who has just turned 25 years old, has become an inspirational leader at Stamford Bridge since being handed the captain's armband by Chelsea’s coach, Jose Mourinho, and has shown his immense presence on the field, scoring freely from set-plays.

He was instrumental in leading Chelsea to their first English top-flight title for 50 years when they stamped their mark on the English Premiership last season, beating the ever present Arsenal and Manchester United to first place in the English Premier league.

His natural leadership qualities have led to calls for Terry to be the future England captain, but despite having been handed the England captain’s armband for the first time, (for all of six minutes), for the World Cup qualifying match against Poland in October, after the captain Michael Owen (covering for David Beckham as skipper, for Beckham, who was suspended for the game) was substituted, Terry say’s he has no plans on taking the job on permanently.

Putting on the captain’s armband for his country for the first time was a special moment for the defender, “What a feeling,” said Terry after the match, “I got a huge cheer from the fans, but Becks is our man for the World Cup, he's a great professional. I'm still just learning the game.”

Beckham has come under fire from critics after having been sent off three times already this season, with many ex-professionals, and supporter’s alike calling for Beckham to be stripped of the England captain’s armband, in favour of Chelsea’s John Terry.

The former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams is among the many who have already called for John Terry to be given the skipper’s job on a permanent basis.

There is no doubting Terry’s desire

yeah john terry, is a great captain and would make a good captain for england. But what about Steven Gerrard, He has basically been king at anfield since Fowler and Owen left. He is a leader both on and off the feild, i think he'd be a BETTER fit for ENGLAND.
