Chelsea Boss Jose Mourinho Will Release Unhappy International Stars To Help World Cup Ambition - Naming Wayne BridgeSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sun, 08/01/2006 - 18:32.
Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he is willing to sell any Chelsea player who is feeling unhappy at Stamford Bridge, and who thinks that they might be compromising their chances of being picked for their national teams for the World Cup Finals without playing regular first-team football. Players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Glen Johnson for England, and Germany’s Robert Huth have barely featured for Chelsea this season, and are all desperate to play regular team football ahead of the World Cup Finals in June. Although Mourinho still feels that players such as Bridge are valuable to his squad, he is not prepared to compromise Chelsea's chances of success for the individual needs of players. “Anyone who isn't happy here can leave,” he revealed. “I know Wayne Bridge needs to play football, but Chelsea need to win matches.” “I will keep my word to my players, and I will keep the squad of players that I trust unless somebody shows me they are not happy, or want to leave.” Defender Wayne Bridge has hardly featured at all for Chelsea this season, and although he was picked by Mourinho to start for the Blues in their FA Cup game against Huddersfield on Saturday, the Chelsea boss indicated that Bridge wouldn’t feature for Chelsea when the Premiership resumes. “A Chelsea manager chooses, in his opinion, the players who are in better condition to play matches. Of course I want to help Bridge and give him some matches because he is a very good player who wants to come back to a high level,” continued Mourinho. “But if I feel that Gallas or Del Horno are the best options for me I cannot think with my heart.” in favorites | email this page
