Charlton's Alan Curbishley Says He May Consider His Future With The Addick's Even If He Fails In Capturing England Coaching JobSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sat, 08/04/2006 - 22:14.
Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley has hinted that he will consider his future at the Premiership club even if he doesn't get the England coaching job. The 48-year-old has been with the South-East London side for nearly 15 years and has established them as a top Premiership side. Curbishley has made no secret of his desire to coach the England national team, but if he doesn't get the chance to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson, he has now hinted that he may look elsewhere for his next managerial role. “People are looking at me and saying the obvious things that I have been here too long, that I haven't managed big players, that I haven't managed a big club but I can't do anything about that,” said Curbishley. “I have to ask myself why I’m doing it and if I’m still here this summer, I think we’ll be at a bit of a crossroads.” The Charlton boss is seen as one of the favourites to become the next England manager, alongside Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren, former Celtic and Leicester City manager Martin O'Neill and Bolton’s Sam Allardyce. Curbishley has one year left on his current contract and he admits that the Addick’s chairman, Richard Murray, has already made plans for his departure, whether it be to the FA headquarters in Soho Square, or to another club. “He must have some names on his shelf as it would be unwise for him not to take those steps,” added Curbishley. “The chairman needs to know what will happen one way or another, but it’s a difficult position and I’m sure if the job did come up again, the chairman would be inundated with people showing their interest in taking over.” in favorites | email this page
