Charlton Defender Luke Young Returning To Fitness - Ex-Spurs Defender Hoping For England Squad Place
Charlton Athletic defender Luke Young is making progress in his quest to return to full fitness and make a bid for a place in the England squad for the World Cup Finals.
Young, who has earned 7 England caps, injured his ankle against West Ham on April 2 and it was feared the injury put an end to any chances of the 26-year-old making it into England's squad.
But after Young was visited by England team doctor Dr Leif Sward and Sven Goran Eriksson’s assistant Tord Grip, the chances are looking better for the ex-Spurs defender.
"They appeared to be happy with the progress Luke is making," said Addicks medical department boss Wayne Diesel.
"He also returned to see a specialist later that same day and he has now been given the go-ahead to start conditioning work and light training."
Young is hoping to return to first-team play against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the final game of the Premiership season on May 7, the day before England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has said he will name his provisional 26-man squad, three of those players to be on standby.
