Charlton Athletic boss Alan Curbishley has resigned from his managerial post at the Addicks after 15 years as the boss at The Valley.

The surprise announcement was made just before Charlton's match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Charlton's last home match of the season.

Curbishley is one of the names linked with the role of England head coach and this announcement comes at a time when The FA have had a rebuttal from Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari as the successor to Sven Goran Eriksson after the World Cup Finals in Germany.

Curbishley is currently 8/1 to take the England helm, with Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren the favourite to get the job at 6/4. Bolton's Sam Allardyce is 10/3 and Martin O Neill 4/1.
