Cameroon Star Striker Samuel Eto’o Claims Two Groups At BarcelonaSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Tue, 13/02/2007 - 19:09.
European and Spanish champions Barcelona seem to be heading towards a major player unrest with prolific Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o alleging there are two groups in the Catalan giants team. “There are two groups at Barcelona, one of the president and the other linked to another person,” claimed Eto’o, who lashed out at Barca manager Frank Rijkaard for speaking to the media about the comeback man’s snub during the La Liga match against Racing Santander on Sunday. Rijkaard had claimed Eto’o, who returned to action after being out for four months with a knee injury in last La Liga match against Osasuna as a substitute during the closing stages, turned down the call to appear as a substitute for the last five minutes for the Santander match. “To go into the press room and say that I didn't want to play is dishonest,” Eto'o said on Tuesday, referring to Rijkaard. Eto'o, who subsequently trained on his own in the Barca gym, also hit out at team-mate Ronaldinho, who had suggested “he (Eto’o) should be more of a team player”. “If a team-mate says that you must think of the team, it's up to him to think of the team. Personally I always think first about the group and then money. That is what hurt me most,” he said. in favorites | email this page
