Cameroon Midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba Frozen Out By Aston Villa Boss O'Leary After Late Return From African Cup of Nations
Aston Villa’s Eric Djemba-Djemba has almost certainly played his last game for the midland’s Premiership side after the Cameroon international midfielder was forced to apologise yesterday for returning home from the African Cup of Nations 10 days late, and it now seems that Villa boss David O'Leary has ruled out using Djemba-Djemba again this season.
The Aston Villa manager, has fined Djemba-Djemba two weeks' wages, and will reportedly look to sell the former Manchester United midfielder in the summer.
O'Leary is hopeful of recouping the £1.3m Villa paid for the 24-year-old 13 months ago after there has been interest shown from clubs in both Spain and France.
“We’ve had a meeting, we’ve heard his reasons, he’s let himself down, and he’s been disciplined,” said O’Leary.
“It’s not right to discuss what went on in the meeting but it still wasn't right what he did. The crux of it is that we weren't informed. He explained why he didn't get in touch with us but that didn't wash for me. It just didn't stack up.”
