British Embassy in Germany Launches Website For England Fans Planning Trip To World Cup 2006
Britain's embassy in Germany aims to assist fans planning to travel to Germany for the World Cup 2006 football tournament in Germany. The website provides information about Germany and guidance for travellers and was setup for the approximately 100,000 England fans who are expected to travel to Germany.
"Over 100,000 England fans are expected to come to Germany for the tournament. That make us the biggest single group of fans, after the hosts. The team at the Embassy in Berlin, and at our Consulates in Duesseldorf, Hamburg and Munich are already busy with their preparations."
"We are the only Embassy to have appointed a dedicated football attache, Andy Battson, who will co-ordinate work with consular staff, police and fan groups. The Foreign Offiice in London is spending an extra £500,000 and employing an extra 20 staff in Germany to meet fans' needs," a statement from Britain's ambassador Peter Torry on the website reads.
