Real Madrid’s veteran Brazilian full-back Roberto Carlos has agreed to join Turkish champions Fenerbahçe S.K from Spanish Giants Real Madrid.

The 34-year-old Brazilian international – whose full name is full name Roberto Carlos da Silva – has his contract with Real Madrid expire at the end of the Primera Liga season, had already announced last March that he wouldn’t be renewing his contract and that he would be leaving the Bernabeu in the summer.

Discussing his new club move in a telephone interview with FBTV, Roberto Carlos said: “I’m very happy to be a Fenerbahçe player next season.”

Roberto Carlos immediately endeared himself to the Sarı Kanaryalar fans by chanting in Turkish: “Fenerbahçe, the greatest! Fenerbahçe, the champions!”

Fenerbahçe vice-president Murat Ozaydinli, who is delighted with his new big name signing, said: “We have transferred a player that conforms to the traditions of Fenerbahce.

“Everyone must thank president Aziz Yildirim. How great it is that today we don't have too much difficulty in signing players of legendary status.”

The player's agent, Dino Pasalic, claimed his client had wanted to secure the move last season, but had to see out his contract with Real Madrid before moving to the Turkish capital.

“He made a promise to Fenerbahçe last year and Carlos always keeps his promises,” said Pasalic.

Roberto Carlos has spent 11 largely successful years with Real, winning three Spanish Primera Liga titles, three Champions League titles and scoring 47 goals in his 370 appearances for the club.
