Brazilian Left-Back Roberto Carlos Surprised Not To End His Career At Real Madrid – Says Fenerbahce Made Him Feel Important

Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos has surprised himself claiming that he had never imagined playing for another club after switching to Real Madrid 11 years back. He has now signed a two-year contract, starting from the next season, at Turkish champions Fenerbahce.

The 34-year-old, who has won 3 Champions League and same number of La Liga titles at Real, said:"I never expected to see myself at another club. I didn't want to leave but circumstances change in football and an opportunity came up that allowed me to move to get what I had wanted here.

"I couldn't reach an agreement with the club but I don't blame anyone. Fenerbahce's president made me feel important again and I have a chance for a great future with them.

"I don't want to leave here on a bad footing. I am leaving happy and with my head held high."

Roberto Carlos, who was heavily criticised for his below par performances at last summer’s World Cup, has retired from the international stage after making 125 appearances. He also suffered injury problems earlier this season for the Bernabeu outfit.

The 2002 World Cup winner also compared his situation with David Beckham, who will ply his trade in Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy from next season.
