Brazil v Poland Under-20 World Cup Preview: Liverpool's Lucas Injured For Brazil, Chelsea Target Pato & Real's Marcelo In SquadSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sat, 30/06/2007 - 18:58.
FIFA Under-20 World Cup Canada favourites Brazil face Poland in their Under-20 World Cup Group D opener in Montreal on Saturday. The Selecao - winners of this tournament in the United Arab Emirates in 2003 - will want to get off to a good start against Poland, but will be without their captain Lucas for the tournament. The Seleçao go into the tournament as favourites, with Chelsea FC target Alexandre Pato from Internacional and Real Madrid’s Marcelo both making names for themselves. But Brazil will be without Liverpool FC’s new signing Lucas, who was the Brazil captain when they won the South American Under-20 Championship title in Paraguay last January, has pulled-out of the squad due to injury and is thought to be out for three weeks. The talented midfielder, who sealed his transfer to Liverpool in May, continued playing for his former club Gremio up to the Libertadores Cup final on June 20, when they were beaten by Argentina's Boca Juniors and is replaced by Bahia midfielder Marcone. Poland, who feature in the tournament for the first time in 24-years, having last participated in 1983 in Mexico, where they secured third place, beat France, Italy and Holland to a place in Canada and could cause an upset. Poland will be counting on their star striker Dawid Janczyk in attack and highly-rated left-back Krzysztof Krol to marshall their defence. Brazil squad for Under-20 World Cup Finals 2007, Canada: Cassio (Gremio), Eduardo (Corinthians), Luizao (Cruzeiro), David Luiz (Benfica), Roberto (Atletico Paranaense), Marcelo (Real Madrid), William (Corinthians), Jo (CSKA), Renato Augusto (Flamengo), Alexandre Pato (Internacional), Muriel (Internaional), Amaral (Palmeiras), Davis (Palmeiras), Edson (Figueirense), Carlo (Coritiba), Marcone (Bahia), Ji Parana (Internacional), Carlos Eduardo (Gremio), Luiz Adriano (Shakhtar Donetsk), Leandro Lima (So Caetano), Felipe (Santos). in favorites | email this page
