Brazil and Real Madrid Striker Ronaldo Fit, Despite Mystery Foot Problems

Brazil and Real Madrid striker Ronaldo is certain to be fit for the World Cup holder’s opening game against Croatia on 13 June, despite a foot problem thought to have been caused by the new boots he has been supplied with by sponsors Nike, team doctors said.

Ahead of Sunday's 4-0 friendly victories over New Zealand, Ronaldo complained of pains and blisters on his feet, attributing the discomfort to the new boots. This resulted in a request from Brazilian officials to Real Madrid to send them several pairs of the boots he normally wears, in an attempt to ease the pain.

However, Ronaldo continued to suffer during Sunday's friendly in Switzerland, and was substituted soon after scoring the opening goal. The Brazilian team doctor Jose Luis Runco insisted that Ronaldo was fit and was not in doubt to face Croatia on June 13, although he did admit that the precise cause of the problem remained unknown.

"The healing process and the blisters is virtually complete. Ronaldo won't have any more problems," said Runco. "We are in a very comfortable situation. There is nobody with complaints, and the players are all at the right level of fitness."

As evidence of this Runco confirmed that Ronaldo had trained normally with the rest of the Brazilian squad on Tuesday.
