Brazil Legend Pele Has No Doubts That The 'Samba Boys' Will Lift The World Cup In Germany

Pele is backing Brazil’s Samba Boys to retain the World Cup title in Germany this summer saying that he thinks Brazil have more strength and depth than other of the top teams, like Italy or England.

When asked who he thought would lift the title this summer, the Brazilian striking legend, and triple World Cup-winner had no doubts. “I think England has a good team this year, Italy has a very good team, but of course Brazil is the favourite, without a doubt."

“Brazil has two teams. If they have to change a player it makes no difference. But if a team like England or Italy lose their best players through injury, they have problems to get replacements,” said Pele.

Pele was in Brazil's team at the finals in Sweden in 1958, the only time the South Americans have lifted the World Cup trophy on European soil, and said he feels that there is an advantage for European sides this year, given that the finals are in Germany.

“Normally, with the Europeans playing in their weather, in front of their public, it's always harder (for Brazil). But this year that could change,” he said.

When quizzed on who he thought may be a surprise package in the finals, Pele cited the Czech Republic and the Ivory Coast as countries which could provide a shock.
