Real Madrid are aiming to beat Liverpool to the signing of out-of-contract Valencia wing-back Fabio Aurelio.

The Brazilian has already held talks with Liverpool and even visited Anfield this year, however the left back failed to sign a pre-contract with the European champions and it now seems the Premiership giants have missed-out.

Juan Figer, Aurelio’s agent, met with the 26-year-old defender on Wednesday to discuss all the offers he has received – from Liverpool, Real Madrid and also Villarreal, with Villareal - nicknamed the Yellow Submarines due to their team strip and the fact that they have, over the years, been up-and-down in the Spanish leagues - proffering a deal reported to be the most lucrative, but it seems that Aurelio is keen on a move to Real.

Figer is now planning for further contract talks with Real official's today.

Aurelio has now jumped to the top of Real Madrid's shortlist of potential left-back signings ahead of Arsenal’s Ashley Cole - who is also reportedly a Chelsea target - and Eric Abidal of French champions Lyon.
