Brazil head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has confirmed veteran AC Milan defender Marcos Cafu as the Seleçao team captain for the World Cup Finals.

Parreira also denied that neither former AS Roma star Cafu or fellow defender Roberto Carlos from Real Madrid were too old to participate in the tournament in Germany.

“You can see them as old or experienced and, as far as I'm concerned, they are experienced, which is fundamental if you're trying to win a World Cup,” said the Brazil boss.

“They're here because they've been playing well and, physically, they're in good shape. You have to respect the fact that Cafu is playing his fourth successive World Cup, so he will begin as captain.”

Brazil have been drawn in Group F in the World Cup Finals, alongside Croatia, Japan and Australia.
