Bolivia 0-1 Uruguay Copa America 2007 Group A - Club Toluca Striker Vicente Sánchez Seals Win For La Celeste, Lima Almost LevelsSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sun, 01/07/2007 - 00:02.
Uruguay have beaten Bolivia 1-0 in their second Group A match in the Copa América 2007, Venezuela. Club Toluca forward Vicente Sánchez scored in the 58th minute after a dull first-half performance from Uruguay to secure ‘La Celeste’ their first win in the Copa América 2007, Venezuela. Villarreal CF striker Diego Forlan was largely ineffective for Uruguay, as he was in the opening 3-0 loss to Peru, with many of the Uruguay players looking jaded and without ideas. Neither side made any incisive plays in a half that gave little excitement to the fans, with Uruguay shading the possession in the first-half, which ended 0-0. Uruguay came out for the second-half with far more intent, and got the breakthrough in the 58th minute, with Vicente Sánchez scoring from close-range after Diego Forlan flicked-on a cross from Diego Perez. La Celeste goalkeeper Fabian Carini was properly called into action in the 81st minute when he intercepted a cross from the right by Bolivia's Miguel Hoyos, with substitute Sacha Silvestre Lima almost drawing the scores level in injury time when Carini did well to push the Bolivian’s venomous long-range shot over the bar to safety. Bolivia, who drew 2-2 against Copa América hosts Venezuela in their opening Group A match, have now managed one point from two games, with their last Group A match – against Peru in Mérida next Tuesday. Uruguay are currently in second-place in Group A, behind leaders Peru, who face hosts Venezuela in San Cristóbal later today.
