Chester City striker Derek Asamoah could be heading for the World Cup Finals after being called up for Ghana's pre-tournament international friendly with Nice next Tuesday.

The 25-year-old has received his first international call-up from the Ghana Black Stars, after making a huge impression at the club since joining on a long-term loan deal from Lincoln City in January, having scored 8 goals.

Asamoah will be linking up Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien and Bristol Rovers striker Junior Agogo to travel to France for the international friendly on Tuesday evening.

Chester City director Paul Baker said: "This is a great opportunity for Derek.

“Obviously his performances with Chester have put him in the shop window and hopefully he can impress sufficiently to earn a place in the Ghanaian squad.
