Beenhakker Names 24-Man Trinidad and Tobago Squad For Peru Friendly - 23 Players Will Travel To FinalsSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Thu, 13/04/2006 - 15:58.
Trinidad and Tobago Soca Warriors head coach Leo Beenhakker has announced a provisional 24-man squad for this summer's World Cup Finals. The 24 players have been named for the friendly against Peru on May 10 and will have to be trimmed to a total of 23 players for the final squad for Germany. Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke will be captaing the Soca Warriors to their first ever World Cup. Beenhakker told socawarriors.net: “Before making the final choice, we did our homework the best we could. I have to protect the players also who brought us to Germany. “They have to be credited and there must be balance in the team. “I want to thank specially all the players who are not on the list but were on the road to Germany and I understand for the moment I have made 23/24 players happy.” Beenhakker has risked the ire of some of the home-based players, who may have felt that they have earned a place in the squad, but the Dutchman feels that it is for the good of the team. “I understand much better that I have disappointed now many players from Trinidad and Tobago but I can assure them that the decisions we made were made in relation to looking for the best of the team. “I think everyone will be very thankful and grateful for their participation on the road to Germany and in the end being in Germany for the first time in the history of this beautiful country.” Trinidad and Tobago have been drawn in Group B against England, Paraguay and Sweden. Their first game is against Sweden on June 10 before taking on England five days later and Paraguay on June 20.
