Beenhakker Full of Praise for the Soca Warriors - Dwight Yorke Named Man of the MatchSubmitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Sat, 10/06/2006 - 21:48.
Trinidad and Tobago's head coach Leo Beenhakker was fully satisfied with his team over their goal-less draw against Sweden in the opening match of their debut World Cup Finals appearance, after being left with a man down for the entire second half. "Sweden have more talent and had more possibilities in the game... But they did not score a goal and my team deserve a great compliment," Beenhakker said. "The start was very difficult. However we did improve in the second half. Sweden have guys from Juventus, Barcelona, Arsenal and Anderlecht... We have guys you have never heard of. You have to look at your maps to see where they are from." "But once again football showed it can surprise you." Dwight Yorke was named Man of the Match and not suprisingly so, as his performance was outstanding. West Ham United's Shaka Hislop made some crucial saves from near certain Swedish goal scoring opportunities. "He showed what a good goalkeeper he is. He did a great job," the Soca Warriors' coach Leo Beenhakker said. It was not by luck that Trinidad & Tobago won this result. Not many people thought Sweden was not gonna win this match. Not only the Soca Warriors did not conceive a goal, despite the relentless efforts by the Swedish strikers, they did so with only 10 men on the pitch for the entire second half. "With this team we have a fantastic relationship. They are warm temperamental people. This is so nice to do something," Beenhakker said, regarding the spirit of the Soca Warriors. They well deserved this result. in favorites | email this page
