Bayern Munich Beat Arsenal & Real Madrid To Complete Signing Of Franck Ribery From Marseille
Bayern Munich have completed the signing of winger Franck Ribery, who was reportedly a target for Arsenal and Real Madrid, in a £17.6m transfer from Marseille. The total fee could rise by another £2.7m if the Bavarians qualify for the Champions League at the end of next season.
The 24-year-old France international has signed on a four-year contract for the Bundesliga giants.
"We've helped Franck to get where he is - we're not happy to let him go,” said Marseille chairman Pape Diouf.
"It's a good financial operation for the club, which proves Marseille can adapt to a market that is not easy."
Ribery, who came into the limelight with sterling performances for the Les Bleus at last summer’s World Cup in Germany where Raymond Domenech’s side lost to Italy in the title clash, had joined Marseille in 2005.
Having 18 international caps and two goals to his credit, Ribery was a target for a host of big sides but Bayern were serious right from the start, according to Diouf.
