Ballack's thoughts about defeat...

Captain Michael Ballack is confident that Germany are moving in the right direction, despite losing 3-2 to Brazil in the 2005 Confederations Cup semi-finals.

But he feels there is still work to do, if Germany are to bid
for top honours on home soil at the 2006 World Cup Finals. "We don't have quite enough at the moment to beat the really big teams in the world" said Ballack.

"Perhaps we'll never duplicate the class of Argentina and Brazil
but I think we've showed we are very close." Ballack scored from the penalty spot to level the match at 2-2, before Brazilian Adriano scored the winner after 76 minutes.

"We're not lacking very much at all," added the Germany skipper. "I think we had a very good match. The fact that the crowd gave us a standing ovation at the end, despite the defeat, shows we did well."
