Socceroos and Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has broken his cheekbone in Middlesbrough's FA Cup semi-final against West Ham at Villa Park on Sunday.

The injury happened as the Australia no.1 clashed with England hopeful, striker Dean Ashton in the first-half of the match.

This will be a blow for Middlesbrough, who also have the second-leg of their UEFA Cup semi-final against Steaua Bucharest coming-up next week, which they are currently behind to the Eastern Europeans 1-0 from the first-leg.

It would also be a blow for Australia coach Guus Hiddinks World Cup warm-up plans.

Update to follow.
