Australia & Everton Midfielder Tim Cahill Believes Socceroos May Cause Surprise This Summer Noting On-Form Kewell & VidukaSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sat, 01/04/2006 - 11:21.
Australia and Everton midfielder Tim Cahill believes the Socceroos will be one of the surprise teams in the World Cup Finals in Germany this summer. Australia will be making their first appearance in the World Cup in 32 years, having twice failed to win their play-off’s in the two previous World Cup qualifiers, and Cahill said the players were determined not to waste their chance. “This is the biggest moment we'll ever have as footballers on the world stage,” Cahill relayed to reporters in Australia via teleconference yesterday. “This is the first chance we get to express ourselves and to show the world what we're made of, because we're definitely not going there to make up the numbers.” Cahill said that his confidence has been boosted by the form of his fellow Australians playing in the English Premier League and feels that the Aussies will make an impact in Germany. "We've got a lot of players who play in the Premier League and all over the world who are firing at the minute," he said. In addition to Harry Kewell at Liverpool, Cahill highlighted the Australian influence of Mark Viduka and Mark Schwarzer at Middlesbrough, and Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton at Blackburn Rovers. Cahill also noted the Australians who are also featuring in Italy’s Serie A with Vince Grella and Marco Bresciano at Parma, and in Holland’s Eredivisie with Jason Culina and Archie Thompson at PSV Eindhoven. in favorites | email this page
