AS Roma Midfielder Daniele De Rossi & Colorado Rapids Defender Pablo Mastroeni Disciplined by FIFA
Heavy sentences were handed out to Italy's DeRossi and USA's Mastroeni by FIFA's disciplinary committee.
AS Roma's midfielder Daniele De Rossi avoided a five-match after FIFA took into consideration the player's written apology about the incident and instead was handed a four-match ban and a (negligible) fine.
In the letter De Rossi also mentioned that he personally apologised to Brian McBride and he acknowledged the fact that his action damaged the image of football.
De Rossi received a straight red card after elbowing USA's striker Brian McBride on the face during a challenge to win a header. The incident was very harsh, as it happened in the center of the pitch, with no real reason, as Italy was not trying to counter-attack, but rather trying to organise it's midfield.
McBride required three stitches which had to be done on the pitch, in order to continue the match, after his cut could not close.
Regarding another incident, Pablo Mastroeni was handed a three-match ban and a (negligible) fine after his two-footed tackle on Andrea Pirlo in the match against Italy.
