Arsenal Keeper Jens Lehmann Wants No1 Shirt For Germany From Jurgen Klinsmann For Finals
Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann wants to be given the No.1 shirt by Germany head coach Jürgen Klinsmann for this summers World Cup Finals.
Lehmann has won the battle with Bayern Munich's Oliver Kahn to be Germany's first choice goalkeeper, but now he wants the number to reflect that decision.
The 36-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper has recently been wearing the No.9 jersey, but now he has been chosen by Klinsmann as the first-choice, he expects to be given the jersey that for so long has been the property of Oliver Kahn’s.
“I want to talk to Jurgen Klinsmann about it once again as I would prefer number one to nine," Lehmann told De Bild newspaper.
“This number was only given to me because all the rest were taken.”
Kahn has worn the number one jersey since taking over from Andreas Kopke as Germany's leading keeper in 1998, but Klinsmann's decision to elect Lehmann as his first-choice custodian earlier this month could create a shake-up of the squad numbers.
A final choice will be made when the 23-man German squad is named on May 15.
